| Duke Udi blasts 3SC, Oyo over FA cup
Former Shooting Stars FC midfielder, Duke Udi says the Oyo State Football Association were wrong to award a match his club SWANLUX won to 3SC in the State FA Cup. SWANLUX had defeated Shooting Stars in the quarter finals of the Oyo FA Cup but Shooting protested the use of Udi who they claimed was still their player despite sacking him three months ago. Udi alongside five others- Kola Ademola, Segun Atere, Ademola Kudaisi, Olewezi Johnson and Ismaila were sacked by the management of 3SC in January. However, Duke Udi said that it is wrong for Shooting Stars to claim he was not properly cleared to play for SWANLUX when he was now a free agent based on the rules guiding Nigerian football. "Shooting Stars sacked me and later placed me on transfer but the rules say I must be on half salary for the duration of my contract which is supposed to last until the end of the year and failure to pay me automatically makes me a free agent," Udi fumed.
Anderson Gets Nine Year-Term in Biggest US Tax Case (Update3)
March 27 (Bloomberg) -- Walter Anderson, the U.S. telecom entrepreneur who once tried to turn Russia's Mir space station into an orbiting hotel for the wealthy, was sentenced to nine years in prison for failing to report $365 million in income. Anderson, 55, must also pay $23 million in restitution, U.S. District Judge Paul Friedman in Washington ruled today. Anderson, who has said he is nearly broke and can't pay, pleaded guilty to tax evasion charges in September and already has spent more than two years in jail. Prosecutors claimed it's the biggest tax evasion prosecution in U.S. history. ``There was simply no justification for Mr. Anderson, a person of considerable wealth, to engage in an elaborate scheme to avoid paying his taxes,'' said U.S. Attorney Jeffrey Taylor.
The Augusta we don't see during the Masters
When the world says Augusta -- breathy, whispery, church-of-golf Augusta -- the world always, always, means the 365 acres of this city that lie behind a 12-foot hedge of bamboo, pearlbush and red-tipped photinia. Say Augusta and the world always means one week among 52. Before commercial breaks, the CBS cameras linger in soft focus almost indiscreetly on shots of flugelhorn azalea blossoms. Those same cameras never pan to the horizon. For just beyond the privet hedge lies a world that doesn't comport with the carefully tended, Truman Show-Sponsored-By-AT&T Masters soundstage. Beyond lies a messy Augusta that can't be tamed to that precise, 3/8-inch height of the fairways. Outside that hedge is an Augusta that is by turns squalid, handsome, proud, defeated, race-haunted, yearning, mired, God-fearing and frequently utterly exasperating.
Got Beef?
If you heard about Game and Buck squashing their beef and you are one of the many fans waiting for a G-unit and Game collabo, don't hold your breath. Game released a new track this week dissing 50 and the whole G-unit crew. According to Buck, After the Vegas incident they had agreed to keep it moving, stop the beefing and just get money. Well I guess when Yayo yoked up Lil' Henchman Jr Game took this as an opportunity to go back on his word and start some more shit. On the track Game raps "This ain't 'Ether,' This ain't 'Hit Em Up, this is a lot of dead bodies/who gonna pick them up/ we just shot the corner/who gonna drive to the truck/f**k the whole G-Unit, who lied to Buck?". Here we go again. (Download the song here) So, Tony Yayo slaps Henchmen's son and gets charged, Young Buck and Game squash the beef, Game then drops a diss record toward the whole G-Unit and what does 50 do? Leak the street single "Straight To The Bank" for his album and change the title of the album to "Curtis".
Thursday morning headlines
More houses on market: Way more, in fact, according to the latest numbers from the end of March. The L.A. area saw a 12.8 percent increase in inventory levels compared with a month earlier. Only SF comes close among the major markets, at 12.2 percent. To give you some perspective, the March inventory increase averages 1.7 percent nationwide. One explanation: sellers wanting to move over the summer are realizing that it will be tougher to unload their properties than it was a couple of years back and are putting their homes on the market sooner. Help for evicted tenants: Out of the kindness of its collective heart, the L.A. City Council has raised the relocation fees that condo developers must shell out when they throw renters into the streets. The fees range from $6,810 to $17,080 - based on age, length of tenancy and income (several councilmembers voting against the measure wanted all tenants to receive the maximum amount).
