| DVD Review: Re-Animator (Anchor Bay Collection)
Re-Animator. What is it about this film that just keeps on going, much like its undead stars? To date there's been a myriad of versions of this gut-wrenching gore-fest. Let's tally them up for a moment, shall we? For starters there were the original VHS releases — rated and unrated. Then there was the Laser Disc version. God, remember them? You could friggin' kill somebody with one of those things! Fast forward to 1997, and Elite Home Entertainment finally released the film on DVD. Elite then went on to re-release the film in a 2002 Millennium Edition. Now this baby was packing! It had everything a fan wanted and more. So is there a need to go to the well yet again? If you're Anchor Bay Entertainment and you're launching your new Anchor Bay Collection line, then the answer is a resounding "yes"! But before we get to what's included, let's take a quick look back at the film itself.
GE's WMC Mortgage loans hit subprime index
NEW YORK (Reuters) - General Electric Co.'s (GE.N: Quote, Profile, Research) subprime mortgage unit is responsible for some of the worst-performing loans in the benchmark index for the $575 billion market for home equity asset-backed securities, showing few lenders are immune to recent U.S. housing sector problems. Losses on more than $2.6 billion in loans issued by WMC Mortgage, a Burbank, California-based unit of GE Money Bank, are expected to top 15 percent, the highest projected rate of any bond in the widely watched ABX derivative index of bonds issued in early 2006, a UBS Securities model showed. The ABX-HE 06-2 index of subprime mortgage securities plunged as much as a third this year as concern that bonds and companies represented don't fully reflect potential losses created by loans to the riskiest borrowers.
Israel torn over what to do with Sudanese refugees
With two miles of bare footprints behind them, Ahmed and Fatima and their three children approached the border with Israel in the middle of a cold winter night. Snow was falling in the Sinai. Avoid the Egyptian military patrols, they were warned by their Bedouin smugglers, whom they paid with money borrowed from Sudanese friends. "If they catch you, you could be shot or deported back to Sudan," the Bedouins said. The 12-hour trip from Cairo was the last leg of a multiyear journey stretching from the violence of Darfur to Sudan's dangerous capital of Khartoum to the teeming streets of Cairo. Ahmed had been imprisoned in each city. Israel was their last hope for what Fatima calls "a normal life" without the "fear of being sent back to Sudan." Two hours after dusting the sand off their dark clothing, dirtied while crawling under two security fences, their 5-month-old baby's cry pierced the silence of the frigid Negev air.
D - League-ing it one day at a time
I havent written a thing in 3 weeks. Why? Well Ill say it has 30% to do with the fact that I play Madden during my usual blog time, but also because I was in the middle of a very productive month on the court. Since Ive sucked the last few games, I guess I can get back to my old bloggin ways. Its been a long few weeks but there havent been a lot of developments on and off the court. This month saw such events as my 27 point 14 rebound game, but also such events as my 2 point 3 rebound game where I was ejected with two techs. Yea, me, Rod Benson ejected with two techs. People who know me know that it takes quite a lot to get me mad. Many people dont even know what an angry, frustrated, kick-me-out-of-the-game-before-I-lose-my-mind Rod Benson looks like...heres an example: .
